News Values 2 Assignment

Q News Values Assignment 2 This assignment demonstrates your understanding of what news is and the news values discussed in class. This three-step assignment: On the same day that you chose your Omaha World-Herald to analyze news values, you must analyze the news on the website of a local TV station: KETV, WOWT, KMTV, KPTM. Make sure to list the date of the paper and the channel you select. Use AP style in your writing. Step 1: Select one story from the newspaper website in the Latest or Top News section and analyze its newsworthiness. Indicate what story you’ve selected by referring to its headline and providing the clickable link in your paper. Refer back to the handout, PowerPoint and your text and then discuss what news values this story reflects. Be very specific. Don’t simply say the story has impact and proximity — explain why it has those attributes. For example, a story about raising the sales tax in Omaha has a major impact because it affects everyone who shops in Omaha. The story you select may not have all the news values we discussed, but you must discuss all news values it contains. Step 2: Choose a different story fom the TV news website. Indicate the Discuss the news values as you did above. Include the headline and a link to the story. Step 3: Discuss whether the TV story is covered on the Omaha World-Herald site. If not, why do you think it wasn’t covered? If so, discuss similarities and differences in the coverage.
